I had my first trip to Barbados in October. I traveled with Nana, Mommy, Daddy, and the baby in mommy's belly. We had a lot of fun. Here is a quick summary of what we did:
Animal Flower Cave:
First, let me give big hugs to my Nana. She was a trooper and climbed down in the big scary cave with us, just so I could see the sea anemone. If you are wondering what a anemone is :
sea anemonen. N.
Any of numerous flowerlike marine coelenterates of the class Anthozoa, having a flexible cylindrical body and tentacles surrounding a central mouth.
This was a neat adventure and thanks again for coming Nana.
Government House:
This place was huge, it was like the white house, but in the Caribbean. They have maids, butlers, drivers, gardeners, etc. Mommy and Daddy tell me Nana's daddy worked at this place. He was Governor General of Barbados back in the 1980's, that was before me :>) Nana's daddys picture was in the the main entrance. " Sir Deighton Lisle Ward" I had a great time running around and looking at the flowers with daddy, mommy, and nana.
Bathsheba / Ms. Ruby:
This place was awesome, they had waves and guys surfing on boards. We had lunch at this place called Bonita Bonito Bar & Restaurant. The food was really good. Flying fish, if you were wondering, yes, fish can fly. Yam, macaroni pie, pigeon peas, all good stuff to me. After lunch we drove around looking for Ruby's house, after Nana's great navigation, we finally found it. Ruby was really nice lady and she had treats. She made Pumpkin Fritters for mommy and nana.
Oistins Fish Fry:
This was a neat experience, I got see fish being cooked Bajan style. Its a gathering place for all the locals to hang out, listen to music, and eat (King fish, Flying Fish, and Dolphin (Not the flipper kind). We visited Oistins with Nana's friend Aunt Joan. I entertained her by showing her some of moves and dances. I really like that steel band sound......
Bajan Roots and Rhythms Show:
I loved this place, I got to dance and hang out with Mommy, Nana, and Daddy. They had tons of food, but the best thing was I had my own spot next to the bar to show off my moves. They asked me if I would be interested in joining the show but I told them mommy and daddy, said I have to go home with them. I may go back some day for a summer job.
Harrisons Cave:
I got to ride a train down into the cave. It was really dark and wet, but Mommy and Nana told me it would be ok. I got to see the bumpy's, at least that what I called them. Mommy and daddy say the correct name would be stalactites and stalagmites. They looked like bumpy's too me. I meet a new friend, the tour operator, she really liked me. I have a picture of her for my scrap book.
Other miscellaneous visits:
The Crane
Mount Gay Rum - Nana's Family used to own this place.
St Michaels Cathedral - This is where Nana went to church as a little girl.
Rostrevor Apartments - This is where we stayed. I loved Aunt Yvonne and the staff.
Beach, Beach, and More Beach:
Finally, I was a little scared of the big ocean at first. The waves crashing and making noise didn't seem too appealing. Mommy read me a book about Violet the mouse and her day at the beach. This helped me to understand that the crashing waves are normal. After about 3 days, I was ready like Freddy. In addition, mommy and daddy purchased a hippo for me to cruise the water in. I was swimming and splashing. We went the to the beach almost everyday. I can't wait to go back to see family, the sun, sno cone man, most of all the beach.
